By now, we’re all familiar with the phrase, “Life gets lifey.” Sometimes it throws a little extra sauce on top for flavor. Between exciting career advancement, major life milestones, and apartment hunting, a few noteworthy releases can get lost in the shuffle. Three releases, in particular, gave me that late to the party feeling. The Phoenix Within, Coe Hill, & Halfway Atlantic dropped some banger singles in the month of June.
The Phoenix Within punches you in the mouth from the opening riff of “Remake.” This track is an inspiring conversation with the singer’s old self. Punctuated by airy sing along bridge that’s bound to sweep through the room of any live venue. Complete with an incredibly catchy chorus and a super sick guitar bend around 2 minutes, “Remake” radiates Coheed vibes that will leave you excited to hear more. Canadian post-hardcore outfit Coe Hill released high energy banger with relentless driving guitars called “Edge Of Collapse.” A palpable desperation permeates the vocals as some very pertinent questions are posed in this emotional race car ride. Fans of A Day To Remember will love this song. “Come Back To Austin” is a pop bombshell by Texas band Halfway Atlantic. I’m partial to Austin bands because of my love for Nominee. “Come Back To Austin” is a toe tapper that will have you dancing around the room like a 15 year old. This track has that nostalgic sound that pop punk has been missing. My initial reaction to “Come Back To Austin” was absolute joy. If you’re in the mood for State Champs or The Story So Far, this is the jam for you. |
